Meet Dan. He has been with Avenues Supported Living Services for over 20 years. He volunteers in the community 5 days a week. He travels an average of 150 miles each week getting to and from his volunteer destinations. Dan spends time twice a week at The Placerita Nature Center helping to make the park look nice for visitors. He gardens; pulls weeds, maintains the trails, removes old bushes, trash and fallen leaves. He also volunteers weekly at Hart Park doing similar trail maintenance and beautification jobs. At least twice a week, Dan travels to neighborhoods within the community passing out flyers and collecting donated shoes for Soles-for-Souls. He occasionally travels to the San Fernando Valley to volunteer at Operation Gratitude. There he helps assemble and pack boxes of dried goods, toiletries, snacks and letters that go to our U.S. troops. He also helps set up and put away chairs for his church community every Sunday. He has volunteered time making and serving lunch at the Midnight Mission in downtown LA, dropped off blankets and sheets to the animal shelter in Castaic, breaking down booths after the annual OLPH BBQ and is always around to lend a hand to those in need.
